EntryQ TMUA question bank: pre-launch price
£30 to the January 2027 sitting, or £80 to 17 October 2027

EntryQ is a TMUA question bank and mock-paper app by Dr Nicky Grant, a Cambridge PhD economist. It has about 2,500 questions with worked solutions, 20 timed mock papers, a Plan that picks your next questions from your own results, and Progress by topic and difficulty. It launches on Monday 16 November 2026, for January 2027 sitters and Year 12 students sitting in October 2027.

The pre-launch price ends at 23:59 UK time on Sunday 15 November 2026. From launch on Monday 16 November the price is £25 a month or £150 a year.

Who it is for

Two sittings,
two passes

January 2027

Year 13, sitting in January

The test window is Monday 4 to Friday 8 January 2027, and bookings open at 3pm (UK time) on 26 October. From the 16 November launch you have seven weeks of Plan sessions and mock papers before the test window opens. The £30 pass runs to 8 January. The January sitting is generally not accepted for Cambridge or Oxford, so check each university first.

October 2027

Year 12, sitting next October

Build up steadily through Year 12 and the summer, with Progress showing which topics and levels still cost you marks. The £80 pass runs to 17 October 2027, 48 weeks from the 16 November launch, and covers the January sitting too if your plans change.

Sitting the TMUA in October 2026? EntryQ launches after that sitting. If you are thinking of sitting again in January, check first: some universities, LSE among them, accept only your first sitting in an admissions cycle.

The Plan

Tell it how long you have,
it picks the questions

Most students lose time deciding what to practise, then drift towards topics they already like. The Plan takes that decision away. It reads every answer you have given and builds a session that fits the minutes you have, aimed at the topics that will move your TMUA score most.

01

Choose 20, 40 or 60 minutes

Open Plan, pick the time you have and press Start. There is nothing to set up and no list to write.

02

It reads your own results

Your answers are sorted by topic and by difficulty, with accuracy and pace recorded separately. Recent answers count for more than old ones, so the Plan follows how you are doing now.

03

It weighs four needs

Fix weak spots where you are getting things wrong. Keep it fresh where earlier work is fading. Speed up where you are right but slow. Map your level where it does not know you yet. Topics that carry more weight in the real TMUA count for more.

04

It fills your time, and says why

Your minutes are shared between those needs and turned into questions using each question's target time. It favours questions you have not seen or got wrong before, and rests ones you have just done. It only calls a topic a weak spot when your answers make that clear.

Worked example, invented for illustration

A January sitter with 40 minutes, struggling with trigonometry

Imagine a student who has answered around 30 trigonometry questions and got fewer than half right. She is accurate on coordinate geometry but often over the target time, and she has hardly touched exponentials and logarithms. She chooses 40 minutes. A session built on the Plan's rules could look like this:

  1. Fix weak spotsTrigonometry: 4 questions, one at D3 and three at D4about 14 min
  2. Keep it freshAlgebra and functions: 2 questions at D4, a topic she was doing well on a fortnight agoabout 7½ min
  3. Speed upCoordinate geometry: 2 questions at D4, judged against the D4 target of 3 min 45about 7½ min
  4. Map your levelExponentials and logarithms: 2 questions, one at D4 and one at D5, because there is not yet enough evidence to judgeabout 8 min
  5. Total10 questions, close to her 40 minutes at target paceabout 37 min

Why trigonometry gets the largest share: about 30 answers, mostly wrong, is enough evidence to call it a weak spot, and trigonometry carries real weight on the paper. If she had answered only three trigonometry questions, the same row would be labelled Map your level instead, because three answers are not enough to call anything a weakness. The Plan does not claim more than your results show.

This example is made up to show how the Plan reasons; it is not a real student or a screenshot. Real sessions depend on your own answers and the bank, and the app's screens look different.

Good to know. The Plan and Progress are built from a record of how you are doing, and the app only keeps that record if you switch on Share my practice data. It is off until you turn it on, sends no name, and can be switched off at any time; practice, Learn and mock papers work in full either way. A free account can use the Plan too; a pass gives it the full question bank to draw on.

Progress

Accuracy and pace,
topic by topic, level by level

A single percentage hides the two things that cost marks in the TMUA: questions you get wrong, and questions you get right too slowly to finish the paper. Progress keeps them apart and reads them at each difficulty level, so you can see exactly where your marks are going.

01

Two measures, kept separate

Accuracy is the share you get right. Pace is the share you finish inside the target time. A student who is right but slow needs different work from one who is quick but careless, and Progress shows which you are.

02

Judged at the right level

Every question is rated D2 to D5 with its own target time: 1 min 30 at D2, 2 min 25 at D3, 3 min 45 at D4 and 4 min 25 at D5. A slow answer on a D5 question is judged against the D5 target, never the D3 one. Meet every target and you finish a typically balanced paper inside the 75 minutes.

03

No numbers built on three answers

A measure only appears once there is enough of your work behind it to mean something. Until then the app says so, rather than showing a figure it cannot stand behind. Your TMUA estimate comes from mock papers only, so everyday practice never inflates it.

Illustrative example only. These figures are invented to show how Progress reads by topic and difficulty. They are not real student data, and the app's own screen is laid out differently.
TopicD3D4D5
Algebra and functions85% right80% on time68% right62% on timeToo few answers yet
Trigonometry55% right70% on time38% right45% on timeToo few answers yet
Coordinate geometry90% right48% on time74% right40% on time50% right35% on time
Exponentials and logarithmsToo few answers yetToo few answers yetToo few answers yet

How to read the example. Trigonometry is the clearest problem: accuracy falls away at D4, so it is a candidate for Fix weak spots. Coordinate geometry is the opposite case: mostly right, but often over the target time, so it is a candidate for Speed up. Exponentials and logarithms show no figures at all because there are too few answers, which is exactly where the Plan sends Map your level questions. This is how Progress and the Plan work together: the Plan acts on the same picture that Progress shows you.

Progress has three tabs: Overview for the broad picture, By Topic for the topic-by-topic breakdown, and Mocks for every paper you have sat. Like the Plan, it needs Share my practice data switched on.

What you get

Everything in EntryQ,
built around the real TMUA

01

A question bank of about 2,500

Original TMUA-style questions across Paper 1 (mathematics) and Paper 2 (reasoning), each with a worked solution. Drill by topic, run a balanced set, or sit a full mock.

02

20 exam-timed TMUA mock papers

Fixed, curated papers of 20 questions in 75 minutes, with no hints or solutions until you finish. Your TMUA estimate comes from mocks only, so everyday practice never inflates it.

03

A Plan that picks the questions

Choose 20, 40 or 60 minutes and the Plan builds the session from your own results: fix weak spots, keep topics fresh, build speed and map where you stand. How the Plan works.

04

146 Learn lessons

Short lessons and topic introductions with worked examples, for when a question shows you are missing the method rather than the practice.

05

Progress by topic and difficulty

Accuracy and pace measured separately, level by level, with no figure shown until there is enough of your work behind it. See an example.

06

Difficulty you can trust

Questions are rated D2 to D5 with a target time for each, and grouped under the TMUA's own topics and skills, weighted to match the shape of a real paper.

Also included: automatic +25% or +50% extra time on mock clocks if you have an access arrangement; a mock clock that pauses if the paper leaves your screen (you can return within 24 hours); and anonymous peer comparison if you choose to share your practice data. The Plan and Progress also need that sharing switched on. Private by default: sharing is off until you switch it on, and you can download or delete everything from Settings. EntryQ is for students aged 16 and over, runs in your browser on phone, tablet or laptop, and iPhone and Android apps are planned. See the privacy notice.

What the pass unlocks: a free account keeps Learn, the Plan, Progress, unlimited warm-up questions, a taster of harder questions and one paired mock. The pass unlocks the full question bank and every mock paper.

The evidence behind it

Built from the data,
tested with real students

320

Past-paper research

The topic map and weighting come from the TMUA past-paper statistical report: all 320 official questions from 2016 to 2023, classified by topic and skill and rated for difficulty.

50

A closed student beta

Fifty students were given access in an invite-only beta in September 2026. Their answers, mock papers and feedback drove rounds of rewording and re-rating before launch.

71 / 53 / 39

Difficulty checked against results

In the beta, average accuracy fell from about 71% on D3 questions to 53% on D4 and 39% on D5, so the ratings track how students really perform (28 questions, each answered by more than 10 students).

Beta figures are from a small invite-only sample in September 2026 and are shown to explain how the app was tuned, not as a promise of results. EntryQ is independent and is not endorsed by the Admissions Testing Service or any university.

Common questions

FAQs

EntryQ is a TMUA practice app by Dr Nicky Grant, a Cambridge PhD economist. It has about 2,500 original questions with worked solutions, 20 timed mock papers, a Plan that picks your next questions from your own results, and Progress that tracks your accuracy and pace by topic and difficulty. It launches on Monday 16 November 2026. The pre-sale lets you reserve a pass at the pre-launch price until 23:59 UK time on Sunday 15 November 2026: £30 for access to the January 2027 TMUA sitting, or £80 for access until 17 October 2027. From launch the price is £25 a month or £150 a year.

Choose 20, 40 or 60 minutes and press Start. The Plan looks at the questions you have already answered, sorted by topic and difficulty, and shares your minutes between four needs: fixing weak spots, keeping earlier topics fresh, speeding up where you are right but slow, and mapping your level where it has too little evidence. Topics that carry more weight in the real TMUA count for more. It then picks real questions to fill the time, favouring ones you have not seen or got wrong before. It only calls a topic a weak spot when your answers make that clear. See how the Plan works.

Progress measures two things separately: accuracy, the share you get right, and pace, the share you finish inside the target time. Both are read topic by topic and level by level, so a slow answer on a D5 question is judged against the D5 target time (4 minutes 25 seconds), not the D3 one. A figure only appears once there is enough of your work behind it; until then the app says so. Your TMUA estimate comes from mock papers only. See the Progress example.

Until 23:59 UK time on Sunday 15 November 2026 the pre-launch price is £30 for the January 2027 sitting pass, which gives access from launch to Friday 8 January 2027, or £80 for the pass to 17 October 2027, which also covers the October 2027 sitting. One payment each, no subscription. From launch on Monday 16 November 2026 the price is £25 a month or £150 a year.

The pre-launch price is lower. £30 covers launch to 8 January, where two months at the launch price would be £50. £80 covers 48 weeks; the yearly price from launch is £150. You can cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your pass starts. To see the style first, try the 50 free TMUA questions from the app bank.

Yes. Cancel at least 24 hours before your pass starts (launch day) and you are refunded in full. If the launch date moves, you are emailed straight away and the same rule applies to the new start date. Email [email protected] to cancel.

Send your details through the form on this page by 23:59 UK time on Sunday 15 November 2026. No payment is taken on the form. I email you to confirm your place and your pre-launch price, with bank transfer details, a payment reference and a pay-by date. Your access details arrive for launch day, Monday 16 November 2026.

EntryQ launches on Monday 16 November 2026. Beta testing is concluding now. Everyone who pre-books is emailed access details for launch day. The pre-launch price ends the day before, at 23:59 UK time on Sunday 15 November 2026.

The January 2027 TMUA test window runs from Monday 4 to Friday 8 January 2027, and test bookings open at 3pm (UK time) on 26 October 2026. The January sitting is generally not accepted for Cambridge or Oxford applications, so check the official ESAT and TMUA site and each university you are applying to.

The January 2027 sitting pass ends on Friday 8 January 2027 either way. If there is a chance you will sit in October 2027 instead, the pass to 17 October 2027 covers both sittings. If your plans change before launch, email me: you can switch pass, or cancel for a full refund at least 24 hours before your pass starts. If you sat the TMUA in October 2026, check before booking January, because some universities, LSE among them, accept only your first sitting in an admissions cycle.

The January 2027 sitting pass costs £30 at the pre-launch price and runs from launch on 16 November 2026 to Friday 8 January 2027, the last day of the January test window. The pass to 17 October 2027 costs £80 at the pre-launch price and runs from launch until 17 October 2027, so it also covers the October 2027 sitting. It suits Year 12 students who want a long run-up, and anyone who may sit in October 2027 rather than January.

Yes, for those two features. Plan and Progress are built from a record of how you are doing, and the app only keeps that record if you switch on Share my practice data. It is off until you turn it on. With it on, the app sends which question you answered, whether you got it right and how long you took, with no name attached. Practise, Learn and mock papers all work in full with it off, and you can download or delete everything from Settings. See the privacy notice.
